How To

How do you use the 5S in your office?

To make your workplace more efficient, organize everything. A neat desk, tidy space, and well-organized workspace are key to productivity. The five S's (Sort, Shine, Sweep, Separate, and Store) work together to ensure that every inch of space is used efficiently and effectively. We'll be going through each step one by one and discussing how they can all be applied in any environment.

  1. Sort.Put away papers and clutter so that you don't waste valuable time searching for something that you know is there. This means that you should put things where they are most useful. If you find yourself frequently referring to something, place it near the location where you do your research. You should also consider whether you really need to keep something around -- if it doesn't serve a useful function, get rid of it!
  2. Shine.Keep your belongings neat and orderly so that you spend less time cleaning up after yourself. Anything that could cause harm or damage to others should be thrown out. For example, if you have a lot of pens lying around, find a way to store them safely. It could be worth investing in a penholder. Pens won't get lost anymore.
  3. Sweep. Clean off surfaces regularly to prevent dirt from building up on your furniture and other items. You may want to invest in some dusting equipment to ensure that all surfaces are as clean as possible. To keep your workstation tidy, you can set aside an area for dusting and sweeping.
  4. Separate. Separating your trash into different bins will save you time when you need to dispose of it. You can dispose of your garbage easily by placing trash cans strategically around the office. Place trash bags next to each trash can to take advantage of the location.
